M-Con adopts “egg laying” system to meet new market demands

    CPI - November 22nd, 2013

M-Con Pipe and Products, Inc., was established in Ayr, just west of Toronto, in 2004 to serve the growing needs of the Southern Ontario market.  The firm uses its original HawkeyePedershaab PipePlusPlus Machine to produce concrete pipe and manholes. Over the years, demand in product volume and variety have moved the firm to expand its plant footprint and capabilities. Recently, the firm adopted an innovative new approach to dry cast production that has enabled increased product flexibility, greater output, and significantly minimized capital and operating costs. The new system from HawkeyePedershaab combines a modular box culvert mold system with a computer-controlled concrete feeder and an overhead crane to enable “egg laying” style production. In addition to the box culvert equipment, M-Con has also installed a new robotic manhole base production system — HawkeyePedershaab’s Smartcast— that has reduced labor, increased accuracy and cut delivery time for manhole bases with even the most complex flow patterns.

Unique new packerhead system helps Coastal Pipeline Products meet market demands

    CPI - April 2nd, 2013

In late October 2012, Superstorm Sandy brought much of the East Coast to its knees with hurricane force winds, torrential rains and flooding storm surges. Sandy’s economic impact could exceed $70 billion according to recent estimates. One company in the storm’s path that made it through relatively unscathed was Coastal Pipeline Products Corp. located in Calverton on the eastern end of Long Island, New York. While the 95,000 ton-per-year precaster’s lights barely flickered in the storm, many of its 50 employees were not so lucky. “I live on the southern coast of Long Island and we were hit pretty hard,” notes operations manager Don Raymond. “We lost power at my house for about six days, but many others were hit much worse. Many in this region lost everything.” Today, the area continues to recover and rebuild. Coastal Pipeline and many other precasters in the area are beginning to fill orders for storm-related reconstruction projects and, at the same time, are experiencing an overall uptick in construction investments.

    The new ePak Machine

    CPI - January 10th, 2013

The new “ePAK packerhead” machine has been added to the well-known pipe machines which HawkeyePedershaab has successfully produced for many years. The ePAK plant produces high-quality pipes with a smooth surface and therefore is ideally suitable for the production of thin-walled pipes. The production is introduced at Coastal Pipeline Products Corp., an important supplier of precast concretes and reinforced concrete pipes for the Long Island and New York City Metropolitan area. The company is approved supplier for all area agencies including the New York State DOT (Department of Transportation), Port Authority of NY/NJ, Nassau County DPW (Department of Public Works), Suffolk County DPW, The Transit Authority, Town of Hempstead, The New York City DDC (Department of Design and Construction), and The New York City DEP (Department of Environmental Protection). Coastal Pipeline Products Corp. is also a National Precast Concrete Association Certified (NPCA) quality plant as well as a NYSDOT QC/QA qualified producer.

Fully automated production systems for Loe’s new factory in Norway

    CPI - June 22nd, 2012

When one enters the beautiful, modern building recently constructed by Loe Rørprodukter A/S in Hokksund, Norway, it becomes clear to the visitor that this is no average concrete product factory. Under the massive roof of the 7300 sq.mt. precast concrete building, lie 8 separate HawkeyePedershaab production centers, 4 of which are fully-automatic systems utilizing the latest in controls and production technologies. Constructed with an investment of 150M NOK (approx. 20M EUR), it is quite clear to those who have experience in this industry that no plant on earth can be considered its equivalent, neither in automation & technology nor in sheer productive capacity & diversity – able to mass produce all manner of manholes and pipes from DN 300 to DN 3600. In fact, Loe’s factory is able to produce over 300 distinct precast concrete products.

Lecuyer leverages flexibility of new systems to meet unique demands of local concrete pipe market

    CPI - December 6th, 2011

When HawkeyePedershaab’s Brad Schmidgall received the confirmation call from the Lecuyer Group of Saint-Rémi, Quebec, in the fall of 2009 confirming that Lecuyer was ready to pull the trigger on the construction of a state-of-art automated concrete reinforced pipe (CRP) plant, he was not surprised. “We had been in discussions with the owner and CEO of Lecuyer Group, Maurice Lecuyer, and the President, Antonio Tavares, since 2007,” explains Schmidgall, HawkeyePedershaab Vice President of Sales for North America. “Long before that, we spoke with them at the Bauma show in Germany and elsewhere. They were very careful in researching the market and waiting for the right combination of factors to align themselves before making a commitment. That was smart and the results speak for themselves.”

Production of Large Concrete Products with Vertical Vibration

    CPI - February 1st, 2009

The demand for larger concrete pipe and box culvert is increasing all over the world and more and more different shapes are used for storm water drainage, sewers, engineering tunnels and walkways. Traditionally these products have been manufactured by wet casting, which gives a nice looking product but decreases the production capacity and raises the cost for casting equipment. The vibration tables produced by HawkeyePedershaab today are from a technological point of view far beyond from the most well known types where a steel construction are suspended by a number of rubber buffers or steel springs, equipped with one or several unsynchronized motor vibrators.
